Acura Releases More Details of the TLX

A little more than a week ago, Acura unveiled the production version of its highly-anticipated TLX sedan at the New York International Auto Show. The TLX will replace both the TL and TSX as the automaker seeks to invigorate sales with fresh models. Though some details have carried over from current models, there are significant changes to the exterior, interior, and powertrain. Industry experts who attended the auto show noted that the production model very closely mirrors the concept version; however, that comes as no surprise following months of positive reviews.

Several aesthetic modifications distinguish it from its kin. The Acura TLX has a chiseled body that begins with a tempered beak-shaped grille. An incredibly striking feature of the new sedan is its “jewel eye” LED headlight design. In addition to the headlights, LED-accented side mirrors, LED taillights, and LED license plate bordering supplement its athletic look.

USA Today reports that Acura has confirmed two engine options: a new 2.4-liter direct-injected four cylinder mated to an eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission with torque converter that generates 206 horsepower; and a carryover 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 290 horsepower. In an effort to increase fuel economy, Acura created a Variable Cylinder Management system that can automatically disengage three cylinders.

Since Acura debuted the concept version of the TLX, the company has been quite reticent about the specifications of the vehicle. The release date, tentatively set for May but possibly delayed until early June, is quickly approaching, and people have begun clamoring to receive more detailed information. Acura anticipates a successful launch based upon the reception the TLX has received at each auto show.

There is a bevy of updated technology and safety features in the new sedan, which you can read about in the USA Today article.
